Apache CloudStack v4.19 Released by Apache Software Foundation

Apache CloudStack boothThe latest release of the open-source cloud computing software for developing, managing, and deploying infrastructure cloud services, Apache CloudStack v4.19, was released by the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). A feature-rich Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution, Apache CloudStack v4.19 would help cloud providers and builders to steer clear of costly licensing and complicated vendor-driven solutions.

Long-term predictability and stability are another benefit that an open-source solution like Apache CloudStack ould offer to Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Cloud Service Providers (CSPs).

The Apache Software Foundation is made up entirely of volunteers and serves as the steward, incubator, and developer of over 320 open-source projects and initiatives.

Over 40 people have contributed to the latest software release process, which has been a year-long collaborative endeavor. “Kudos to the community members who not only contributed fantastic features but also played a crucial role in testing and refining each other’s work,” said Abhishek Kumar, 4.19 Release Manager and PMC member. “This collaborative endeavor has culminated in a feature-rich and stable 4.19 release.”

314 New Features, Bug Fixes

Apache CloudStack v4.19 includes bug fixes and other enhancements along with 314 new features. Highlights include: CloudStack DRS; Migration from VMware to KVM; Importing KVM; Snapshot Copy; Scheduled Instance Lifecycle Operations; Support for VNF Appliances; and Support for Object Storage.

Service providers may quickly switch from vendor-driven solutions to totally open source solutions using Apache CloudStack. For instance, Apache CloudStack would enable the smooth and interruption-free onboarding of pre-existing VMware assets, including networks, storage, and instances.

Additionally, CloudStack is able to establish a native connection with the VMware API, register instances that are already running by exporting their corresponding meta-data settings, and enable end users to manage their resources using the robust CloudStack API or UI.

With funding from more than 75 sponsors, the Apache Software Foundation was established in 1999 with the goal of providing software for the general public. Worldwide use of ASF’s open-source software is commonplace, with over 8,400 committers contributing to more than 320 active projects.
