The acquisition would represent a significant step forward in Gcore’s objective to provide its clients with edge security services that are comprehensive and available everywhere. By Q3 2024, the WAAP will be a part of Gcore’s security product portfolio. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
In a research analyzing the security and operational effectiveness of multiple cloud WAF solutions, independent security solutions assessor SecureIQLab named StackPath WAAP a leader in the cloud WAF space.
“The acquisition of StackPath WAAP marks a significant milestone in our strategic roadmap, underscoring our commitment to continuous innovation of our edge infrastructure and solutions,” said Gcore CEO Andre Reitenbach. “StackPath WAAP is a leading solution on the market because to its exceptional reputation for quality. With its integration, our clients will have improved defenses against application-layer DDoS attacks at the edge as well as stronger application and API security.”

Gcore’s vast edge network encompasses more than 160 Points of Presence. The company allows for security closer to the end user by using its edge network. This edge networking approach would lower latency, use real-time threat information, decrease common weaknesses, scale smoothly against massive DDoS attacks, while securing vital API endpoints.
Utilizing machine learning to identify and reduce harmful behavior is one of StackPath WAAP’s main advantages. Gcore will expand the product’s capabilities with AI-driven WAF when it adds it to its lineup. This would allow for more sophisticated HTTP pattern recognition, improving mitigation of zero-day attacks and enhancing protection against them.
According to Gcore, it will continue to provide StackPath WAAP’s quick setup and built-in features that make it highly adaptable, while also including features like real-time analytics, sophisticated threat detection, and customization. The early-access version is available for client review in the meantime, with integration expected for Q3 2024. Gcore says customers’ demands will be satisfied by flexible price options depending on consumption.
StackPath CEO Kip Turco said, “We’re proud of the WAAP we built at StackPath and passionate about security in the cloud. We saw that Gcore would be the ideal location for the ongoing development of this next-generation WAAP when we made the decision to concentrate even more intently on our latency-sensitive, highly distributed edge computing platform. We are eager to collaborate with Gcore even more as cloud, edge, and security solutions continue to advance and become increasingly necessary for the industry.”
