At Capacity LATAM 2024, Liberty Networks, a subsidiary of Liberty Latin America (LLA) and a supplier of infrastructure connectivity in Latin America and the Caribbean, has announced the activation of two new regional Points-of-Presence (PoP) in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, and Merida, Mexico.

The new network backbone Points-of-Presence will provide corporations, wholesalers, and content providers in the Merida and Quetzaltenango metropolitan regions high-speed IP transit, DDOS protection, MPLS, and Ethernet services.

Liberty Networks’ coverage will increase to 94 wholesale network PoPs with the additional ones. Through a wide footprint that connects around 40 nations with about 50,000 kilometers of undersea fiber optic cable and 17,000 kilometers of terrestrial networks, the company’s business would serve as the backbone for connectivity across the area. By strategically locating key network nodes closer to companies, this expansion would enhance performance and reliability for vital processes and provide quicker data transfer rates for a flawless user experience.

$250M Investment Strategy

“Expanding network coverage across the area is made possible in large part by the establishment of the additional PoPs in Guatemala and Mexico. As part of our $250 million investment strategy for the next five years, which we announced last year, we are still investing in vital connection infrastructure,” said Ray Collins, Senior Vice President of Infrastructure and Corporate Strategy at Liberty Latin America. “These cities are growing quickly and have robust internet marketplaces in addition to steady economies. With this calculated placement, we can assist the thriving digital environment in the area.”

To go along with the new Points-of-Presence development, Liberty Networks and Gold Data unveiled their new subsea cable systems, GD-1 and LN-1, last year. The subsea system was designed to provide two distinct routes with the lowest latency from Mexico to the United States – to increase connectivity between significant centers in Mexico and the United States as new routes.

The newly established network Points-of-Presence cater to the regional markets of Quetzaltenango and Merida, while also serving as a major center for enterprises needing dependable and expandable links to the United States. This would make it possible for businesses to interact with a worldwide network of partners and consumers, which eventually promotes global expansion.
