Eaton Debuts Modular Data Center Solution to Meet Edge and AI/ML Demand

Eaton SmartRackSmart power management vendor Eaton has announced the North American debut of a cutting-edge new modular data center solution designed to help businesses quickly address the expanding needs of edge computing, AI, and machine learning. In a couple of days, Eaton’s SmartRack modular data centers may be installed in warehouses, industrial facilities, and corporate or colocation data centers.

IT rack, cooling, and service enclosures are all combined in Eaton’s SmartRack modular data centers to provide a performance-optimized data center solution for critical IT equipment with up to 150 kW of equipment load. Eaton’s SmartRack modular data centers are designed with robust and transportable modular enclosures that would allow for quick sizing, configuration, commissioning, and deployment to accommodate a wide range of needs.

According to Eaton product manager Jose L. Medina, “The race is on as the rapid growth of AI and edge computing increases the demand for small data centers with shorter development cycles, lower costs, and optimized capacity. With our creative approach, we’ve streamlined the normally expensive and time-consuming process of building new data centers so that operators may start using them in a matter of days rather than weeks or months.”

There are thirteen common configurations for Eaton’s SmartRack modular data centers, which come pre-built and with in-row cooling units already installed. The pre-sales engineering team at Eaton will provide assistance for unique setups if necessary. The solution works with Eaton’s Brightlayer Data Centers suite for remote management and monitoring of cooling, UPSs, PDUs, and other crucial components. It also works with Eaton’s SmartRack in-row precision cooling system, PDUs, single-phase and three-phase UPSs, cables, KVMs, and cable management accessories.

Established in 1911, Eaton has maintained a listing on the New York Stock Exchange for almost a century.

The announcement comes after Eaton unveiled its Rack PDU G4, a cutting-edge rack power distribution solution for data centers and edge facilities, globally at the end of 2023. The Rack PDU G4 enables data center operators to install a single PDU across numerous locations, saving time, money, and simplifying power management by meeting the power needs for a wide variety of equipment and facility types. For enterprises with extensive dispersed IT infrastructures looking to optimize PDU deployment and purchase while increasing equipment use, Eaton’s Rack PDU G4 could be a fitting option.

Just like Eaton’s SmartRack modular data centers, these Rack PDU G4 metered and managed models are compatible with Eaton’s Brightlayer Data Centers suite software. When combined, these hardware/software solutions provide customers the ability to automate processes like graceful shutdown during power outages to safeguard data and maintain business continuity, as well as remotely manage and monitor extensive, multi-site PDU installations.
