Cologix has partnered with Bandwidth IG to bring additional dark fiber connectivity to its SV1 digital edge data center located in the heart of Silicon Valley. This strategic collaboration would enhance the network-neutral interconnection and hyperscale edge data center services offered by Cologix in North America.

Bandwidth IG, founded in 2019 and based in Sunnyvale, California, specializes in providing high-capacity dark fiber networks across the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Portland, and Greater Atlanta. Its wholly underground infrastructure would ensure robust data solutions for enterprises and data centers in need of top-notch connectivity.

Bandwidth IG’s expansive network encompasses over 310 miles in the Bay Area connecting 65 data centers, more than 15 miles in Portland serving 15 data centers, and in Atlanta, it extends beyond 170 miles linking 20 data centers.

“As the demand for dark fiber services increases, the need for more truly diverse routes has never been higher,” said Bruce Garrison, CEO at Bandwidth IG. “By working with Cologix, we’re delivering mission-critical dark fiber to a highly sought after data center environment. Partnerships like this are important because they not only extend more dark fiber services to Cologix, but provide interconnection across the San Francisco Bay area and beyond.”

Cologix offers carrier- and cloud-neutral hyperscale edge data centers and services in 11 markets throughout North America. The data centers are spread across various locations including Ashburn, Columbus, Dallas, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Minneapolis, Montréal, New Jersey, Silicon Valley, Toronto, and Vancouver.

“Being a leader in network-neutral interconnection and edge data centers, Cologix is dedicated to providing our customers with cutting-edge solutions to fuel their interconnection strategies in Silicon Valley and beyond,” said Peg Hallberg, Cologix’s Head of Product. “This collaboration signifies a milestone for the Silicon Valley data center market, delivering unprecedented high-capacity network solutions to our customers. We are excited to see the immense value this partnership brings to businesses seeking reliable, scalable and high-speed connectivity solutions.”

Specs of Cologix’s Silicon Valley Data Center

Cologix’s SV1 data center in Silicon Valley encompasses an expansive 84,000 square feet dedicated to interconnection and situated within a secure 5-acre campus. This facility boasts a substantial 20 MW of power capacity. It operates outside of the 500-year floodplain and features a dry-pipe fire suppression system paired with Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) for fire detection. Security is paramount with 24/7 on-site personnel, mantraps, ballistic-rated exterior walls, perimeter access controls, and a suite of authentication measures including biometric and retina scanners, alongside keycard and dual authentication methods complemented by an extensive CCTV system.

The electrical infrastructure of SV1 would adhere to a Tier 3 equivalent standard with N+1 redundancy across UPS, PDU, and generators, ensuring a concurrently maintainable electrical system. The mechanical systems would mirror this reliability with N+1 redundancy for Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH) or Air Conditioners (CRAC) and feature economizers and cold aisle containment, reinforcing the concurrently maintainable mechanical design.

This data center from Cologix in Silicon Valley includes a hardened exterior, NOC, customer portal, and shared amenities like conference rooms, staging areas, secured storage, and a lounge. A 100% Service Level Agreement (SLA) would cover both electrical and mechanical aspects, ensuring consistent uptime. Additionally, Cologix’s SV1 data center offers rack and stack services, Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) for customers, remote hands, and dual points of entry for telecommunications.

On the certification front, the SV1 data center would meet numerous compliance standards including SOC 2 Types 1 and 2, ISO 9001, 27001, 22301, 2000-1, SSAE 18 SOC 1 Type 2, HIPAA, and PCI DSS 3.2 Validation, showcasing its commitment to best practices and customer trust.
