A multi-megawatt data center partnership has been announced between Nautilus Data Technologies, a U.S. innovator in data center infrastructure technologies, and Start Campus, a company from Portugal. Start Campus is a pioneer in the design, construction, and site selection of ecosystems powered entirely by renewable energy.

The water-cooled data centers from Nautilus Data Technologies are spearheading a global shift in the data center industry toward high-performance, ultra-efficient, and ecologically sustainable operations. The company would enable the maximum societal gain by supporting the highest performance computing with the least environmental impact possible thanks to a patented water-cooling technology.

Reiterating both firms’ steadfast commitment to transforming data center efficiency and sustainability, this strategic cooperation marks the first major milestone since the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in September 2023.

Through this partnership, Nautilus’ newest product line, EcoCore, a sophisticated data center infrastructure designed to improve data hall cooling for the first phase of Start Campus’s 495MW Sines Project facility in Portugal, will be deployed.

The project is anticipated to advance data center technology and is expected to be finished in the middle of 2024. This solution was developed by Nautilus expressly to meet Start Campus‘s needs for liquid-cooled, high-density servers.

The intrinsic capacity of the Nautilus architecture to accommodate any kind of cooling system would allow the data hall to efficiently control and disperse heat. This is what makes it unique. The Start Campus data hall is still adaptable and performance-focused whether it is cooled via the rear-door, immersion, direct-to-chip, or conventional hot aisle techniques. The Start Campus data hall would top the industry in efficiency and adaptability due to its versatility.

Sustainable Design and Innovation for Data Centers

Start Campus CEO Rob Dunn stated: “This is a good example of how we conceive data centers: future-proofed from the start and customer-centric. Our infrastructure’s efficiency and environmental credentials will soar thanks to the creative cooling offer, which will also uphold our core value of sustainability while enabling us to satisfy our clients’ changing needs with unmatched accuracy and reliability.”

Nautilus Data Technologies CEO Rob Pfleging echoed this view when he emphasized the importance of the agreement, saying, “We are thrilled to partner with Start Campus in this project. With its unparalleled efficiency and versatility, Nautilus’ sustainable technology raises the bar for the sector. This agreement is a significant step forward for Nautilus and demonstrates our dedication to continuing to push the envelope in data center innovation.”

The collaboration between Nautilus and Start Campus would represent a major advancement in sustainable design and innovation for data centers. Through the partnership, Nautilus’ EcoCore zero-water usage cooling technology will be implemented to handle high-density, liquid-cooled servers, satisfying Start Campus’s urgent operating needs and concurrently setting new industry standards.

As it moves forward, Start Campus intends to work with Nautilus to offer a complete, integrated technology and delivery solution. This will involve a significant 120MW capacity extension of its intended 495MW campus in the second phase of development.
