Digital Realty to Host Major AI Supercomputer in Copenhagen, Denmark

NVIDIA - dgx-superpod-with-dgx-GB200-systemsDigital Realty (NYSE: DLR), a large international provider of data center services, colocation, and interconnectivity solutions that are neutral to cloud providers and carriers, has been chosen to house one of the planet’s most powerful AI supercomputers within an AI-optimized data center in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This project in Digital Realty’s colocation data center in Copenhagen will provide Danish public and private sector researchers with access to a sophisticated AI supercomputer powered by NVIDIA via a cooperation started by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO). This involves using NVIDIA’s software platforms and benefiting from its knowledge and experience.

This configuration includes 191 NVIDIA DGX H100 systems, which together use the power of over 1,500 NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs. It also includes the state-of-the-art NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD supercomputer. Through the Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking infrastructure from NVIDIA, these systems are connected. To enable pretrained models, efficient computing frameworks, and software libraries to assist data science operations, the DGX SuperPOD further incorporates NVIDIA AI Enterprise software.

This powerful computing system will be supported by the AI-capable, high-density colocation data center infrastructure that Digital Realty has to offer. The National Center for AI Innovation, which was founded in Denmark as a result of this collaboration, will be able to further research and innovation in a number of fields, including healthcare, life sciences, and climate studies, with the help of this foundation.

“Digital Realty is at the forefront of crafting the digital future, transcending mere infrastructure development to become architects of tomorrow,” said Chris Sharp, Chief Technology Officer of Digital Realty. “Our dedication to providing cutting-edge, AI-ready infrastructure is about more than simply hastening the adoption of AI; it’s also about leading the way in the next innovation tsunami. We want to position Digital Realty as the leading hub for private AI, where businesses and data come together, rather than just a site where AI meets. Here, the fusion of creativity and technology accomplishes achievements in science and industry, therefore influencing the course of the future.”

Sustainable AI Research and Innovation

By announcing a high-density colocation option on its global data center platform, PlatformDIGITAL, Digital Realty has shown that it actively supports AI integration. The goal of this program is to remove obstacles that prevent AI integration for businesses globally. Furthermore, Digital Realty became the first firm in the world to be certified for the NVIDIA DGX H100 as part of the NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center program with its KIX13 data center in Osaka, Japan.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation’s CEO, Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen, said, “We are thrilled to be working with Digital Realty. With their superb track record of operational excellence and tangible commitment to sustainability, they are the ideal partner to host the supercomputer and help take this exciting initiative forward.”

A member of the EU Climate Neutral Data Center Pact, Digital Realty aspires to achieve carbon neutrality in its European data centers by 2030. The company has a worldwide contract for more than one gigawatt of renewable energy.

Denmark’s AI research and innovation scene has probably reached a major turning point with this partnership between Digital Realty, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, EIFO, and NVIDIA. The National Center for AI Innovation seeks to advance ground-breaking discoveries and the creation of creative solutions to global issues by giving access to top-notch AI infrastructure and talent.
