Intel Corporation has announced the appointment of Stuart Pann as the senior vice president and general manager of Intel Foundry Services (IFS), the company’s commercial foundry business.

Pann will be reporting directly to Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger and will be responsible for driving the growth of IFS and its innovative systems foundry offering, which extends beyond traditional wafer fabrication to encompass packaging, chiplet standards, software, and the availability of manufacturing capacity in the United States and Europe.

Gelsinger expressed his confidence in Pann’s capabilities, stating, “The industry is responding well to our systems foundry approach and we’re seeing strong momentum, including the recent announcement of a significant cloud, edge, and data center solutions provider as a customer for our upcoming Intel 3 process. With deep expertise in capital and capacity strategies, supply chain management, and sales and operations planning across internal and external manufacturing, Stuart is an ideal leader to accelerate this momentum and drive long-term growth for IFS.”

Prior to this role, Pann served as the senior vice president, chief business transformation officer, and general manager of Intel’s Corporate Planning Group. In this capacity, he established Intel’s IDM 2.0 Acceleration Office, which guided the implementation of an internal foundry model, transforming the company’s operations to align with other top foundries. This model ensures that Intel’s business units operate on an economic footing similar to external IFS customers, while also focusing on eliminating legacy costs and providing greater financial transparency. In his new position as general manager of IFS, Pann will continue to be closely involved with these efforts, advocating for the interests of IFS and its customers in close collaboration with Intel’s Technology Development and Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Operations organizations.

Pann expressed his commitment to Intel Foundry Services, stating, “Intel Foundry Services is a critical pillar of our IDM 2.0 strategy, and it’s been exciting to watch it grow from an idea to an operating business with a world-class IP portfolio and significant customers in less than two years. I am committed to championing the interests of our foundry customers and to helping them take advantage of Intel’s leading-edge process technology and full stack of open systems foundry offerings so they can succeed in a world that demands ever more computing.”

Pann brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having started his career at Intel and rejoining the company in 2021 after serving as the chief supply chain officer and chief information officer at HP for six years. Before that, he held the position of corporate vice president and general manager of Intel’s Business Management Group, overseeing pricing, revenue, and forecasting for the company’s microprocessor and chipset operations. Pann holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Pann takes over from Dr. Randhir Thakur, who served as the inaugural general manager of Intel Foundry Services but stepped down from the role in November 2022. Dr. Thakur will be leaving Intel at the end of March to embark on a new journey outside the company.
