Arelion has unveiled two new high-capacity, low-latency network routes connecting Jacksonville, Florida, to Atlanta, Georgia, and Jacksonville to Tallahassee, Florida. In addition to these network routes, the company has also executed an overbuild from Miami along Florida’s west coast up to Atlanta. This strategic move positions Arelion to offer fully diverse connectivity services from Jacksonville to Atlanta via two direct routes, bolstering its Gulf Coast network expansion.
These enhancements are set to support local traffic and subsea traffic flows into Atlanta from the Caribbean, Central America, and South America through subsea cables landing in Jacksonville.
The new network routes are built on the latest generation open optical line systems that support C+L Band, sixth-generation coherent optics, and multi-vendor 400G wave capability. This technology empowers Arelion’s wholesale and enterprise customers with high-capacity optical transmission and rapid service delivery.
The network infrastructure deployment is particularly significant for Atlanta’s burgeoning data center market and the increasing demand for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) applications. Atlanta ranks as the sixth largest market for commissioned data center power, making it a key hub for such advancements. Arelion’s new network routes would integrate seamlessly into its diverse suburban ring, enhancing metro connectivity in Atlanta and meeting the region’s high-capacity bandwidth requirements.

By providing additional meshing and diversity into Atlanta, we can serve the connectivity requirements of local enterprises while supporting subsea traffic from Jacksonville and other Florida edge markets and sea cable landings, enabling low-latency cloud, content and AI/ML delivery across diverse industries.”
Four Route Options Jacksonville, Six into Atlanta

- The Jacksonville to Atlanta route runs from Cologix-JAX1 to Equinix-AT1
- The Jacksonville to Tallahassee route connects Cologix-JAX1 to EdgeConnex-TAL01
- The overbuild route enhances capacity and meshing from Digital Realty-ATL14 in Atlanta to EdgeConnex-TAL01 in Tallahassee, continuing through Tampa (365 Data Centers) down to Equinix-MI1 in Miami
- Jacksonville’s additional metro sites include Telxius CLS and EdgeConnex, while Tampa features the recently announced Flexential Tampa – North site
- Tallahassee, a new market for Arelion, now has a local edge Point-of-Presence (PoP) and increased meshing/routing flexibility
With these two new network routes going live in Q3 2024, Arelion now boasts four diverse route options into Jacksonville and six into Atlanta. These enhancements would provide North American customers with better access to Arelion’s global Internet backbone and a robust portfolio of connectivity services. These include scalable 400G Wavelengths, IP Transit, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), Cloud Connect, Global 40G Ethernet Virtual Circuit (VC), and DDoS Mitigation services tailored for service providers, content providers, and enterprises.
