Switch Datacenters Opens 15-18 MW Sustainable Facility in Amsterdam

The newest 15-18 MW data center from Switch Datacenters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, AMS4, has been opened by the company. Switch Datacenters is a Dutch developer and operator of sustainable data centers. In addition to the newly constructed site, Switch Datacenters is developing more than 200MW of new capacity in the Amsterdam area.

The Dutch data center developer/operator claims that by expanding its capacity, it will get to the top of the wholesale market in Amsterdam, one of the biggest data center marketplaces in Europe. AMS4 would already have a number of well-known customers, such as one of the top 5 cloud providers and a major global app developer.  By constructing AMS4 on top of an already-existing logistical structure at the Amsterdam Science Park, Switch Datacenters was able to complete construction in just 22 months and cut Scope 3 emissions by almost half, the company reported.

PCI-DSS, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 9001

The company’s latest data center project, AMS4, would showcase a modern approach to technology infrastructure. With a 14MW IT load capacity, this facility would emphasize sustainability and efficiency. The design includes modular elements that allow for future technological integrations and upgrades. An advanced, closed cooling system would enhance energy efficiency by minimizing water use and integrating heat recovery systems to support a new local heat grid, providing eco-friendly heat to nearby households.

Security and compliance are also critical, with plans for certifications like PCI-DSS, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and ISO 9001. AMS4’s infrastructure would feature robust, green power solutions, ultra-efficient rooftop cooling units, and full interconnectivity with minimal latency due to its strategic placement near major fiber routes in the Amsterdam area.

This new facility in Amsterdam may be creating a new benchmark in data center design because it not only promises high-performance computing capabilities but also gives environmental sustainability and cutting-edge security measures first priority.
