The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has partnered with Khazna Data Centres to enhance Abu Dhabi’s data economy by constructing a state-of-the-art data center in Mafraq, Abu Dhabi. This facility, with an initial capacity of 30MW, is part of a Musataha agreement, leveraging government-owned land.
Expected to be operational by mid-2026, the new data center in Mafraq, Abu Dhabi would bolster the region’s data infrastructure, meeting the rising demand for data services in the UAE.
This initiative aligns with ADIO’s strategy to use the Musataha programme to fuel knowledge-based economic growth, providing long-term leasing contracts to encourage significant investments. Khazna’s new data centre is anticipated to generate considerable economic activity and create high-value job opportunities, contributing to the development of Abu Dhabi’s technology sector.
Mansoor Al Bastaki, Head of Musataha at ADIO, highlighted the value of data in the modern economy, likening it to oil in the 18th century. He emphasized ADIO’s commitment to enhancing Abu Dhabi’s digital infrastructure to support economic growth and enable efficient public services.
12 Data Centers Across the UAE
Khazna Data Centres, already operating 12 data centers across the UAE with a planned capacity of 300MW, aims to add 12 more data centers in the next two years. The new Mafraq facility will incorporate advanced technologies and sustainable practices, ensuring high performance and environmental efficiency.
Ziad Samaha, Vice President of Business Development at Khazna, emphasized the critical role of data centres in a digital economy and expressed excitement about the collaboration with ADIO. He stated that this project underscores Khazna’s commitment to driving the UAE’s digital and AI ambitions, positioning the nation as a significant digital hub.
ADIO offers local and international companies various opportunities, including access to public land through Musataha agreements, which grant rights to develop plots for a specified period. Since October 2021, ADIO has facilitated 132 such agreements, promoting growth and development in Abu Dhabi’s capital.
