Intel Unveils AI and Xeon Technologies at Computex 2024

At Computex in Taipei, Taiwan, Intel has unveiled a series of groundbreaking technologies and architectures designed to significantly advance the AI ecosystem, impacting data centers, cloud environments, networks, and edge devices. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger emphasized the transformative potential of AI, underscoring its role in driving innovation.

“AI is driving one of the most consequential eras of innovation the industry has ever seen,” said Pat Gelsinger. “The magic of silicon is once again enabling exponential advancements in computing that will push the boundaries of human potential and power the global economy for years to come.”

Intel’s strategic focus spans the entire AI market, from semiconductor manufacturing to network, edge, and data center systems. Gelsinger highlighted Intel’s new platforms – Xeon, and Gaudi – emphasizing their flexibility, security, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness, all crucial for maximizing AI’s vast opportunities.

During his keynote, Gelsinger championed the benefits of open standards and Intel’s robust ecosystem, which accelerates AI development. He was joined by industry leaders such as Acer’s Jason Chen, ASUS’s Jonney Shih, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, and Inventec’s Jack Tsai, who collectively reinforced Intel’s commitment to AI innovation and its rapid technological advancements.

5th Gen Intel Xeon and Xeon 6

Intel’s recent achievements include the swift transition from launching 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors to introducing the first member of the Xeon 6 family within six months. This transition would underscore Intel’s ability to deliver next-generation technologies promptly.

The new Xeon 6 platform, comprising both Efficient-core (E-core) and Performance-core (P-core) SKUs, is designed to cater to diverse use cases and workloads, from AI to scalable cloud-native applications. These cores share a compatible architecture and software stack, bolstered by an open ecosystem of hardware and software vendors.

The debut of the Intel Xeon 6 E-core, codenamed Sierra Forest, marks a significant milestone. Available immediately, it offers high core density and exceptional performance per watt, making it ideal for high-density, scale-out workloads, including cloud-native applications, content delivery networks, network microservices, and consumer digital services. Its rack-level consolidation capabilities promise significant performance gains and efficiency, enabling the freeing up of compute capacity for innovative AI projects.

The Xeon 6 processors are positioned as optimal CPU head nodes for AI workloads, seamlessly integrating with Intel Gaudi AI accelerators designed specifically for AI tasks. The Gaudi 3 accelerators are set to enhance performance significantly for training and inference tasks on leading generative AI (GenAI) models, unlocking substantial value from proprietary data for enterprises.

Asus, Foxconn, Gigabyte, Inventec, Quanta, Wistron

To broaden the availability of these advanced AI systems, Intel is collaborating with at least 10 top global server systems providers. New partners like Asus, Foxconn, Gigabyte, Inventec, Quanta, and Wistron join existing providers such as Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Lenovo, and Supermicro, thereby expanding the production offerings of Intel Gaudi 3.

Gelsinger’s keynote underscored Intel’s commitment to driving AI innovation and delivering next-generation technologies, positioning Intel at the forefront of the AI revolution. With these advancements, Intel aims to empower businesses to maximize opportunities in the evolving AI landscape, reinforcing its role as a key player in the global tech industry.
