nLighten Expands in Europe with Acquisition of Seven Edge Data Centers

Digital infrastructure platform nLighten has announced the acquisition of seven edge data centers from EXA Infrastructure, marking a significant expansion in Europe. This strategic move will enable nLighten to extend its services into new markets in Belgium, Switzerland, and Spain, while bolstering its presence in Germany, France, the UK, and the Netherlands.

This acquisition increases nLighten’s total number of edge data centers in Europe to 34, including critical business hubs like Amsterdam, London, Paris, Madrid, Geneva, Zurich, and Ghent.

The expanded footprint would allow nLighten to enhance its offerings, providing low-latency data processing and geographically distributed deployments. This development is particularly relevant as the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and robust data center solutions grows across industries. nLighten aims to empower businesses with a comprehensive portfolio of colocation, connectivity, and on-site services, ensuring optimal business continuity and scalability for various applications.

Harro Beusker, co-founder and CEO of nLighten, emphasized the importance of this acquisition in strengthening their position in the European market. He highlighted the company’s commitment to providing world-class data center solutions, which aligns with their goal of establishing a leading European edge data center platform.

Global Infrastructure Investor

This transaction also marks the beginning of a collaborative relationship with EXA Infrastructure. EXA’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nick Collins, noted that the sale allows EXA to focus on its core competency of building and operating mission-critical network infrastructure. This focus will enable EXA to better support its customers’ growth by concentrating on its extensive terrestrial and subsea fiber network.

Both nLighten and EXA Infrastructure are portfolio companies of I Squared Capital, a global infrastructure investor. This strategic alignment within the portfolio showcases I Squared Capital’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure capabilities, fostering growth, and driving innovation across its investments. The acquisition is expected to bring significant benefits to nLighten‘s customers and solidify its position as a key player in the European data center market.
