Google Cloud and Oracle Announce Multicloud Collaboration

Today, Oracle and Google Cloud announced their alliance, enabling clients to choose how to speed up their application migrations and modernization by combining Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) technologies. High-speed network connectivity and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure database services will be provided via Google Cloud. 

Customer onboarding for Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect will commence in 11 worldwide regions, enabling users to establish general-purpose workloads without incurring any cross-cloud data transfer fees. Oracle Database@Google Cloud, a new solution with feature and price parity with OCI and the greatest degree of Oracle database and network performance, will be available later this year.

Together, the two businesses will launch Oracle Database@Google Cloud, which will help businesses all over the world and in a variety of sectors, such as manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, retail, and more.

“Users desire the freedom to utilize multiple clouds,” said Oracle Chairman and Chief Technology Officer Larry Ellison. “Google and Oracle are seamlessly integrating the newest Oracle Database technology with Google Cloud services to address this expanding demand. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure hardware may be installed in Google Cloud datacenters to provide clients with optimal network and database performance.”

“Oracle and Google Cloud have numerous joint enterprise clients,” said Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. “This new partnership will help these customers use Oracle database and applications in concert with Google Cloud’s innovative platform and AI capabilities.”

Cloud Migrations

Customers may directly access Oracle database services running on OCI and deployed in Google Cloud data centers using Oracle Database@Google Cloud. In order to update their IT systems and benefit from Google Cloud infrastructure, tools, and AI services – such as data and analytics, Vertex AI, and the company’s Gemini foundation models – this new product is intended to assist clients in expediting their cloud migration. Benefits for customers would include the following:

  • Adaptable solutions to make moving their Oracle databases to Google Cloud easier and faster, including compatibility with tried-and-true migration tools like Oracle Zero-Downtime Migration
  • A streamlined contracting and purchase process through the Google Cloud Marketplace that lets users take advantage of their current Oracle license advantages, such as Bring Your Own License (BYOL) and loyalty programs like Oracle Support Rewards, to buy Oracle database services using their current Google Cloud commitments (OSR)
  • A unified Oracle and Google Cloud customer experience and support
  • The ease of use, security, and latency of Google Cloud’s unified operating environment (datacenter) for deploying the full suite of Oracle database services, such as MySQL Heatwave, Oracle Exadata Database Service, Oracle Autonomous Database Service, Oracle GoldenGate, and Oracle Data Safe
  • Linking their Oracle data to Vertex AI and Gemini foundation models, two of Google’s industry-leading AI services, to provide enterprise truth for AI applications and agents for customer support, employee services, creative studios, development environments, and other areas. 

Starting with North America and Europe, Oracle will directly run and oversee Oracle database services inside Google Cloud datacenters worldwide. Later this year, four regions – US East (Ashburn), US West (Salt Lake City), UK South (London), and Germany Central (Frankfurt) – will host the launches of Oracle Exadata Database Service, Oracle Autonomous Database Service, and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC). Following this, these services will quickly spread to additional regions across the globe. 

OCI and Google Cross-Cloud Interconnect

 Customers may deploy workloads across both OCI and Google Cloud regions using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Google Cross-Cloud Interconnect at no cost for cross-cloud data transmission. Today, eleven cross-cloud interconnect zones will allow customers to start the onboarding process: Australia East (Sydney), Australia South East (Melbourne), Brazil East (São Paulo), Canada The following regions are being added to over time: South East (Montreal), Germany Central (Frankfurt), India West (Mumbai), Japan East (Tokyo), Singapore, Spain Central (Madrid), UK South (London), and US East (Ashburn). These connections offer low latency, high throughput, private connections with seamless interoperability between two of the top cloud providers. Customers may now:

  • Innovate by combining Oracle and Google Cloud services in the most advantageous way possible, taking into account factors like functionality, cost, and performance
  • For top-notch multicloud network performance, choose a direct connection that offers minimal latency between OCI and Google Cloud
  • Use distributed data stores on OCI and Google Cloud to run various Oracle applications, such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise, Oracle Retail Merchandising, and others, on OCI
  • Create new cloud-native apps using Google Cloud and OCI technologies, such as the enterprise-grade AI tools offered by Google Cloud

The ability to transfer data and launch new cloud-native applications across the two clouds, as well as a completely integrated experience for building, maintaining, and using Oracle database instances inside Google Cloud, are all made possible by the new multicloud features. This would help companies to innovate in the cloud by using their current competencies to fully use Oracle and Google Cloud’s capabilities.
