Philips expands its partnership with AWS to offer cloud-based diagnostic solutions that streamline workflows and improve patient outcomes across multiple healthcare specialties. The integration of generative AI will enable clinicians to work more efficiently, freeing up valuable time for critical decision-making. This partnership reflects Philips’ commitment to healthcare innovation and will play a key role in shaping the future of medical diagnostics.
Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, has announced an expansion of its strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to bring its integrated diagnostics portfolio to the cloud. The portfolio spans multiple medical fields, including radiology, digital pathology, cardiology, and AI-driven advanced visualization solutions. This expanded collaboration aims to streamline diagnostic workflows, enhance access to vital insights, and improve outcomes across a range of clinical specialties.
Philips has already migrated over 150 healthcare sites in North and Latin America to its Philips HealthSuite Imaging platform on AWS and is now extending this initiative to Europe. The transition to cloud-based systems will provide clinicians with seamless access to data from a variety of diagnostic sources, such as radiology images and pathology slides, enabling more effective care coordination and optimizing workflow efficiency.
Seamless Integration of Data for Improved Patient Care
Philips’ cloud-enabled solutions are designed to provide a unified view of patient data from diverse diagnostic sources. This not only simplifies collaboration among healthcare teams but also allows for remote access to diagnostic tools, reporting systems, and workflow management solutions. By integrating AWS’s cutting-edge AI capabilities, Philips enhances diagnostic capabilities, enabling clinicians to provide better and more efficient care.
Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, emphasized the potential of this collaboration, saying, “The integration of Philips’ healthcare informatics with AWS’s AI capabilities allows clinicians to access vital imaging insights, enhancing the quality of care and patient outcomes, all while ensuring top-tier security and privacy.”
Transforming Workflows with Generative AI
With the increasing complexity of medical imaging and growing patient volumes, Philips aims to address the challenges faced by healthcare providers by leveraging generative AI to automate routine tasks and streamline workflows. By doing so, clinicians will have more time for patient interactions and critical decision-making.
Philips is exploring the use of conversational AI in reporting, where clinicians can dictate findings in natural language, which will then be converted into structured reports. This functionality is designed to save time, improve accuracy, and reduce administrative burdens. In real-time, clinicians can revise reports, add diagnostic impressions, and flag inconsistencies, ultimately leading to quicker diagnoses and better care quality.
Edward Steiner, Chief and Medical Director at The York/WellSpan Advanced Prostate Care Center, USA, noted the significant impact of generative AI on efficiency, saying, “With Philips’ ambient reporting, radiologists can speak conversationally, and a structured report is generated in seconds. This will increase efficiency by 15-20%, and that’s just the beginning.”
Philips’ Commitment to Innovation in Healthcare
Roy Jakobs, CEO of Royal Philips, remarked, “By integrating cloud-based healthcare informatics solutions, we are enhancing workflows across various clinical fields such as radiology, digital pathology, and cardiology. Our collaboration with AWS accelerates innovation, helping us deliver improved care to more people.”
Philips will showcase its latest informatics solutions at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting from December 1-4, 2024, in Chicago. For more details, visit Philips at RSNA 2024.
