Digital Realty Launches Its ServiceFabric at Athens Data Center

Global provider of cloud- and carrier-neutral data center infrastructure services, Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR), has unveiled its interconnection platform, ServiceFabric, at its Athens data center campus in Greece. The move would reflect Digital Realty’s commitment to meet the evolving needs of its customers, who the company says are increasingly looking to accelerate digital transformation and adopt hybrid IT strategies.

ServiceFabric, Digital Realty’s interconnection and orchestration platform, is designed to offer enterprises and service providers seamless access to leading cloud platforms. By launching this platform at the Athens campus, Digital Realty is enhancing its services in a region that is quickly becoming a key player in the global cloud connectivity landscape.

Users operating from Digital Realty’s Athens data centers are now expected to experience enhanced interconnectivity services, translating to reduced latency and improved efficiency.

The ServiceFabric platform allows businesses to coordinate their cloud computing services and interconnect their infrastructure, whether located within Digital Realty’s data centers or across other partner platforms. ServiceFabric would integrate effortlessly into existing IT management frameworks, extending access to a vast network of global providers and services. It should deliver a “cloud-like” experience that meets the increasing demand for connectivity and integration with public clouds, supporting participation in a broader global data marketplace.

The introduction of ServiceFabric in Athens comes on the heels of Google’s deployment of its first Google Cloud on-ramp in Greece. This initiative would strengthen Greece’s position as an emerging hub for regional cloud connectivity.

Google Cloud Interconnect offers the shortest path to Google Cloud resources, ensuring that network traffic remains on the Google global network, thereby avoiding the public internet and minimizing latency and bottlenecks. Digital Realty serves as a physical meeting point where Google Cloud customers and partners can establish direct connections, optimizing their hybrid IT solutions.

Cloud Connectivity Hub

This addition to the Athens Campus is a significant milestone for PlatformDIGITAL, Digital Realty’s expansive global data center platform, which now hosts 18 Google Cloud on-ramps worldwide. These include locations such as Athens, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Madrid, Marseille, Paris, Stockholm, Vienna, Zagreb, Zurich, as well as Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York City, Santiago de Chile, and Sao Paulo. Customers can interconnect directly at these sites or utilize virtual access to any Google Cloud region through ServiceFabric from nearly 100 locations globally.
